Located in the county of Devon is the civil parish of Honiton. Honiton was founded back during the Roman times. It grew because of the Fosse Way, which was an ancient Roman Road that linked Lincoln and Exeter. Because of its location it quickly became an important stopping point. Back in the times of the Domesday books it was known as Honetone. As the computer grew it became known for its lace, having over a thousand people making lace in their homes. Honiton was so popular for its lace that by the 19th Century Queen Victoria had her wedding dress made from it.

One of the places that most people head to learn about the town is the Allhallows Museum. Here you can learn all about not just the history of the town but history of the lace that was once made here. The Allhallows Museum is home to the best collection of ancient lace in existence. Here you can see examples from the early 16th Century all the way up to more recent forms Once you've finished looking at all the beautiful lace then be sure to tour the remain exhibits. You will see beautiful pieces of potteries, war memorabilia, coins, children's toys and palaeontology. Let the kids run around a little, there are many exhibits to keep their attention plus choose one of the quiz sheets for them to complete with a guarantee of a prize if they complete it. Be sure you take time to try your hand at lace making.

If you are into shopping, then you will have no problem finding places to go. Every Tuesday and Saturday there is the wonderful Honiton Market Traders. Her you can find a wide variety of items to purchase. From flowers and plants to curios and collectibles there is something for everyone to enjoy. Take your time and wander from stall to stall to find exactly what you are looking for. Get yourself some tasty treats from the sweets stall or fresh produce stalls, or get a hand crafted goody from one of the other popular stalls. It is a one stop shopping spree.
