Located on the Rase River is the town of Market Rasen. This small market town is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds area. The exact settlement year for Market Rasen is unknown but the town center is surrounded by Georgian, Victorian and Medieval architecture. Many of these buildings were restored in the 19th century and have a 19th century feel to them as well.

One of the things that the town is known for is the market Rasen Racecourse. This National Hunt racecourse is a right-handed oval that only spans about one and a quarter miles. Mainly what is raced out here is the Nation Hunt but even though that is mainly a winter sport they do hold other races year round. Another popular fixture is the Summer Plate which features a two and a quarter mile Summer Hurdle.

Located near the town is the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. Here you can see the largest Social History Museum in the County. The building was built in 1857 and was used as listed barracks for the Royal North Lincoln Milita. The museum tells the story of the regiment through displays, audio and video towers. The museum's collection also provides an array of artifacts that display the many different aspects of Lincolnshire life. While you are here be sure to visit the Ellis Windmill that is located next door to the museum.

Also located near the town is the Lincolnshire Castle. The town of Lincoln was an important city in Norman times and so William the Conqueror built a castle. It dominated the skyline for years and is only one of two castles in Britain to be built with two motes. It was the site of several battles during the reigns of Kings John and Stephen. It was also used as a court and a prison for years. Visitors can see many of the original features throughout the castle. One of the features that visitors can see is a copy of the Magna Carta. There are only four copies of this 780 year old document remaining and one of them is housed here Accompanying the Magana Carta is and exhibition explaining the documents origins and how the document has affected the lives of the English and beyond.

If you love golf then you will have a good time in Market Rasen. Market Rasen is home to a 70 par, eighteen hole golf course. It is considered to be one of the most attractive courses in Northern Lincolnshire. You will find picturesque fairways and many natural hazards such as the Rase River which flows through the course.
