The county of Cumbria is in fact a rather new one, having been invented in the early seventies as a way to reorganize certain districts for various reasons. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but many towns that now are considered a part of Cumbria are in fact far older than the county and some of these towns are still a bit miffed about being theoretically relocated. Either way, Grange-over-Sands is definitely a town with a history that dates much further back in time than 1974. Grange-over-Sands was originally in the county of Lancashire and in fact part of the town is still considered by the county to be under its domain
Lancashire is arguably a county that has more interesting history and it is here, then, that Grange-over-Sands seems to fit better. The town was once a humble and quaint fishing village that espoused the very best that the Victorian Era had to offer. One can still see traces here and there of the austere idealism that bathes itself upon the stately old houses in much the same way that the waves of Morecambe Bay lap against the town's coast. Morecambe Bay is itself home to some beautiful towns including Barrow-in-Furness and Grange-over-Sands acts as the perfect compliment to the area, adding to the beauty rather than monopolizing it or changing the tone. One must remember, however, that Grange-over-Sands is much more grown up these days thanks to its role as one of the most desirable resort towns in and around Cumbria. Grange-over-Sands has always had a reputation for beauty and it wasn't until the advent of the railways that the town could be reached and appreciated by the masses.
This tradition continues to this day and tourism is a big part of Grange-over-Sands' appeal but it isn't the architecture that drives most of these people. It is instead the beautiful natural landscape that makes the town a frequent destination for lovers of the environment. Chief among the attractions is the phenomenal Lakeland Fells. The "Sheep Meadows" are another popular sight to see. The lush foliage of the land makes it a divine place for sheep to graze and passersby can see thousands of sheep simply munching on the meadows with no regard for any restraint or prudence. Grange-over-Sands is taking pain, however, to make sure that its in-town accommodations add even more tourists to its fan base. The town has enacted several large projects designed at bringing entertainment to its visitors and already an award-winning swimming pool has been making waves and attracting many who think it is a work of art no matter how many horrible puns are attributed to it in articles. Grange-over-Sands will no doubt grow even more in popularity as it increases its fun diversions within the town but it is truly a pipe dream to think that anything created by man can compare to the stunning natural sights displayed all around the city. Either way, the town is definitely worth visiting for its bold and noble attempts at matching God's handiwork.
