The gorgeous seaside city of Blackpool enjoys one of the most beautifully scenic views of any location in the Northwest of England or even the entire country as a whole. Situated nicely upon the Irish Sea, Blackpool's one hundred and fifty thousand residents are treated to a postcard-worthy view nearly everywhere they turn. The odd thing, though, is that the greater Blackpool area is not a quaint little burg as many seaside towns but in fact a bustling metropolis in its own right. The district is in fact the fourth most crowded in all of England if one ignores the monstrosity that is the Greater London area. What is even more remarkable is the fact that Blackpool was and still is a major tourist attraction. For most seaside resort towns in England that depend on tourism the people come for the season and then go to their respective homes. Blackpool, on the other hand, seems to be so enjoyable that everybody who visits it decides to stay and live there!

The city rose to prominence as an idyllic getaway in the 1800s but Blackpool's beauty has in fact attracted people for over twelve thousand years according to some recent discoveries in the earth of this hallowed town. It seems that Paleolithic hunters resided around the same area where you would now find hotels and Ferris wheels. Even when Man began to become more advanced Blackpool remained an important location and the early tribes that would eventually become the Anglo-Saxon people made Blackpool a permanent home. It wasn't until the 1700s, however, that the city that would become Blackpool truly made a name for itself. This was around the time that similar seaside cities would tout their ability to heal people with their therapeutic powers. Blackpool was no exception and it quickly began to brag about its dubious ability to revitalize visitors with its waters. Hotels began to spring up all around the city to accommodate the wealthy visitors who made the trek to the city to bathe in its healing waters. Some of these hotels can still be seen by curious visitors and although the medical powers of the Irish Sea were considered defunct by the 1800s the fact remains that Blackpool owes much of its current prominence to its early boasts of medicinal magic.

The Blackpool of today is a hodgepodge of historic wonder and current splendor and that more than anything is responsible for the interesting and fascinating aspect of the city. In all respects Blackpool is a unique town that brilliantly melds its history with its modern amenities perfectly. Whether you're visiting to see the sights that once held your ancestors in wonder or you're stopping by to see a concert by the latest popular band you can be sure that you will find something to love in this glorious Mecca by the sea. Blackpool truly has something to offer for any demographic and that is truly something that is therapeutic and healing. This is one of the few instances where you can actually believe the hype and there is a good chance that your expectations will in fact be exceeded.
