Weymouth is situated at the mouth of the River Wey on the English Channel coast, just north of the Isle of Portland. Weymouth has a history that goes as far back as the twelfth century and includes the involvement in the development of Georgian architecture, preparations for World War II, settling the Americas and also is unfortunately known for being one of the start points of the Black Plague.

While staying in Weymouth one of the first places that you'll want to visit is Chesil Beach. The main attraction of this beach is the Fleet which is a shallow, tidal lagoon. Because of its location at Cliff End the Fleet Lagoon is actually formed in a hallow behind the beach. Home to many wading birds visitors can enjoy an almost secluded beach with a tremendous view. Children will enjoy being able to dig up a variety of fossils as they play in the sand.

For those interested in some of the history attached to the town, visit the Jordan Hill Roman Temple. This believed to be pagan temple built by the Romans has fascinated visitors for centuries. In 1843 an amateur excavation of the site led the discovery of ancient coins. These coins put the site the temple was built on as occupied back in the fourth century. Tourists still enjoy coming to see the ruins looking to see signs of any other buried relics.

Families looking for a little fun and adventure should check out Deep Sea Adventure. This sea based theme park specializes in exhibitions that feature deep sea shipwrecks. Among the famous shipwrecks that this park depicts is the Titanic. Other than shipwrecks Deep Sea Adventures also features Sharky's Part and Play Warehouse where the kids can blow off some steam by sliding, playing in the ball pools and the other activities which span the four floors. You and your family are guaranteed to have a good time.

Of course there is always time to shop when you are on vacation. Visit Brewers Quay in the old harbour for plenty of shopping opportunities. Here you can not only find unique gifts to take home with you, but there is also an arts and crafts section, a children's zone so they don't get bored, and specialty shops where you can find rare collector's items. When you tire of shopping you can visit one of the many restaurants and have a bite to eat before you leave. For those that would like there is also a brewery located nearby for you to visit and enjoy.

The nature lover can't miss out on Bennett's Water Garden. This serene garden is set on eight acres of land and boasts the National and International collection of water lilies. This beautiful garden makes a wonderful spot for people who are interested in getting married and offers a unique wedding venue for those interested.
