West Malling is a market town located in the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent. The town is home to many historic sites. Many of these sites date back to the late 11th century putting the town to be at least that old if not older. It is a great starting place to view many interesting attractions and sites in the Kent area.
For those who are interested in the natural side of things should head over to the Garden Organic Yalding. Located just outside of Maidstone, near West Malling, this organic garden is one of the largest organic gardening charities in Europe. There are sixteen beautiful gardens. These gardens range from the medieval Apothecary Garden to more recent Edwardian herbaceous border. The gardens also features a low-water garden and a children's garden where your kids can learn how to make their own organic garden and grow their own tasty veg. Not only can you see these wonderful gardens but you can learn too, it's not just for the kids. Even if you aren't good at growing anything it doesn't mean this will be a boring site. You'll not only learn the history and techniques of doing it yourself but you can stop at the cafe and taste some of the delicious foods you've just been staring at.
Also located just outside of West Malling is the Great Comp Garden. This beautiful garden was established by Joy and Roderick Cameron in 1957 and surrounds the beautiful 17th century home. This garden extends over seven acres and has a variety of plants that bloom throughout the year. Thanks to the care it has received you may even be able to find some of your favorite variety of plant available in the nursery that is stated with in the garden itself. Here you will find some very hardy and uncommon varieties of the plants found in the gardens.
If you have kids then you need to take them to Kent Life. This cute little "museum" is a great way to spend the day. Here you will get to see and touch many of the farm animals of Kent. Here you can enjoy a donkey ride, small animal cuddling, and bottle feeding of lambs (seasonal of course) among other great activities. There is also an outdoor adventure area for the kids to play at as well as an indoor play barn full of soft equipment so parents can breathe a little easier. It is a wonderful place to spend the day with the kids.
