One of the most famous places that people visit is of course Warwick Castle. Built in 1068 by William the Conqueror it was used until the early 1600s as a fortification. Today the castle is considered a Scheduled Ancient Monument, meaning the building is a historic building and there is no unauthorized change. Now visitors can tour the castle and see how people once lived and behaved. The castle has gardens for those who'd like to wander and view.
Another spot for visitors to stop in this historic town is the Collegiate Church of St. Mary. This church's foundation dates back nearly nine hundred years, having been built in 1123. The only surviving part of the original church from this time period is the crypt. The current building was built after the Great Fire of Warwick destroyed the church building in 1694. The current gothic building has been in place since 1704. The architecture and sheer beauty of this large building is reason enough for anyone to make it a stop on their list.
Another item of historical interest is Guy's Cliffe. This country house on the River Avon has been occupied since Saxon times. It gets its name from the legendary Guy of Warwick. He supposedly retired to this site in around 1423. The house is in ruins now after a scene from the movie The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes got out of hand and damaged the building severely. Visitors can still enjoy touring the grounds and see in the remains.
For families visiting St. Nicholas' Park it has outdoor facilities such as swings and climbing frames. There is also an indoor sports facility that has a swimming pool and cafe. There are plenty of lush grass and colorful flowerbeds for you to enjoy while you are there.
There are many more historical sites and gardens for you and your family to enjoy during your stay in Warwick.
