The cathedral city of Hereford lies on the River Wye. Named because it was at a place where a body of armed men forded the river, the city was actually settled in the 700s AD. Because of its history the city has many different historical sites for visitors to enjoy during their stay.

Built in 1079 the Hereford Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in Hereford England. Among the most famous pieces in the collection is the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map from the thirteenth century. It is the main centre of the Christian mission and seat of the Bishop in the Hereford area. The Bishop's throne near the high altar and the cathedral underwent restoration during the mid-1700s to early 1900s.

Housed in a Victorian Gothic building, the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery sports fine works of art and decorative art for visitors to enjoy. The Hereford Museum has been in the area since 1874. The exterior of the building hasn't changed much since the museum was opened. The exhibitions change regularly but the Kenchester mosaic on the way upstairs is worth seeing and there are several pieces of art that change regularly lining the stair case as well.

The Abbey Dore Court Gardens are a beautiful place for people to relax. The gardens are six acres of beautiful plants, river areas and bridge. There is also an additional four acres of four acres of meadow full of trees. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll through the breath taking views and relaxing atmosphere.

The Churchill House is a popular stop as well. There are examples 18th century robes, nineteenth century gowns, military and civil costumes. The kitchen is a Victorian kitchen with a cook and kitchen maid to illustrate the servant costume. There is also a nursery with a nanny and charge getting ready for bed for visitors to get an idea of what things were like back in Victorian England.

The Dore Abby, located approximately fifteen miles away from Hereford, is opened to visitors. Founded in 1147 the construction of the current stone building is done in a "new" early English style. The Abby was left as a roofless ruin until 1630 when it was renovated. It was further restored and renovated in 1700, around the time the wall paintings were created.

There are numerous museums and gardens for visitors to enjoy during their stay in Hereford.
