The civil parish of Knutsford located in the county of Cheshire England. Situated on the Cheshire Plain, Knutsford dates back to the Domesday ara of 1086. Back then it was known as Cunetesford. Named so because the King of England during the time the town was originally settled was King Canute. Tradition held that King Canute forded the Lily River at this area thus the name of Cunetesford. The town became a spill over point after the Second World War, when homes were building to rehouse people.

If you are in the Knustford area during May then be sure to check out the May Day Festival. This is a weekend that is held in May where people parade through the streets. There is the crowning of the May Queen and a funfair. The funfair is one of the biggest draws to the festival and is said to be one of the largest funfairs in England. It's a lot of fun for old and your family.

Another popular attraction is Tatton Park. This park is located at the historic estate of Tatton Hall. The manor house dates back to the medieval times. The garden itself lies to the south of the manor. It consists of a formal and natural garden. There is an Italian garden with two terraces and a statue of Neptune in the center. There is also a Kitchen garden, Pleasure garden, and a Japanese garden. Each of these gardens has unique plants, it really is wonderful to stroll through during the spring, summer and fall. Located near the Park is the Parkland which consists of 2,000 acres. It is landscaped to attract deer but you might also see some sheep roaming the countryside as well.

Another popular attraction is the Tabley House. It is one of the finest Palladian mansions in the North West region of England. Designed by John Carr of York for Lord de Tabley it was completed in 1767. Visitors can roam the halls and see many of the beautiful paintings that Lord Tabley acquired during his life at this home. You will see paintings by artists such as Cotes, Reynolds, Callcottt, Lawrence and Dobson. The gallery that was created for Sir John in the early 1800s has been recently restored so that it looks as it did in the early 1840s.

Another wonderful site is the Arely Hall. This 100 plus acres of gardens and parkland has been in the same family for over 500 years. The hall over looks a beautiful parkland that has a great amount of variety in the design and style. You will find that this garden has just about everything you can imagine for a garden in this area. Take time to wander the grounds and see the exotic trees, spring bulbs, and azaleas.
