The city of Cardiff is the largest city in Wales and is the nation's base for cultural and sporting institutions. Cardiff is also the tourist capital of Wales. Founded around 6,000BC and has archeological significance being linked to the Bronze Age. There are lots of tourist opportunities for visitors to this area.

A major attraction is Cardiff Castle. This medieval castle is done in Victorian and Gothic architecture. Built originally in 55AD during the Silures conquest, in the late second or third century there was some civilian buildings that occupied the site. In 1091 the Normal Keep was constructed, all that remains is the shell. In the early nineteenth century the Victorian mansion was added. Built in the Gothic Style the rest of the castle also underwent a massive rebuilding during this time. The clock tower was the first thing rebuilt. Now the castle is a popular attraction and is also the site for rock concerts and other performances.

Castell Coch, or the Red Castle, is located just north of the city of Cardiff. The site originally held a thirteenth century fortification but is now home to a nineteenth century Gothic Revival Castle. Today the castle is used mainly for a variety of movies and television productions.

One of the things that many people do when they visit Cardiff is the different sporting events. While visiting the area visitors can take in any number of sports. Rugby fans can visit Cardiff Arms Park. This was the home of three Welsh Grand Slams in 1971, 1976, and 1978. This historic park is home to their rugby club.

Being the sports capital of Wales means that rugby isn't the only sporting event that can be enjoyed while staying here. Football, cricket, boxing, motor racing, cycling, baseball, and basketball can all be enjoyed during your stay.

A popular destination for many visitors is the Queens Arcade. This shopping centre was built to look like many of the architecture around the arcade late nineteenth century. Home to a variety of shops for the shoppers to enjoy, Queen's Arcade is also connected to St David's Centre, the tenth largest shopping centre in the United Kingdom.

Cardiff is also home to many pubs and clubs. Those that want to enjoy the nightlife will have no problem finding fun. Many of the clubs are located in the city centre but Cardiff Bay also has a night scene with modern restaurants and bars as well as the Wales, Millennium Centre, where one can enjoy a varied programme of theatre, opera. contemporary dance, concerts and large scale touring shows.

The nature lovers will enjoy many of popular parks to enjoy. The main park is Bute Park, it was once the castle grounds, extending north to the shopping centre, and combining Llandaff Fields and Pontcanna Fields giving the park a large open space that is bordered by River Taff.

Cardiff has a lot to do for visitors to the area.
